Immaculate Contraption, the "El Maestro" phase
Purpose
To
help resolve transatlantic cultural tensions by implementing a process of
seeking understanding through intellectually humane and emotionally
stimulating communication. We present the voices and opinions of Americans and
Europeans
directly to each other within the context of live and recorded musically
narrative performances.
Description
The music of the Immaculate Contraption (I.C.) is characterized by our live
instrumental and vocal improvisational performance style which mixes and blends
various genres of popular modern music like drum and bass, hip hop, breakbeat
and house. In the larger context of performance art, our innovation is our
ability to play live, compositions which are normally computer generated
arrangements or prerecorded tracks played by stand alone DJs.
We use live and sampled vocals ranging from melodic song to freestyle beat
poetry and spoken word, all relevant to addressing contemporary local and global
issues while drawing upon significant cultural and historical perspectives.
We support the vocal messages with the mature use of complex and highly
evolved tones typically found in digital music and dj culture.
In-between live sets, we perform dj sets of varying genre as background music
to support recorded interviews with prominent social and political figures as
well as the common wo/man.
